General
The Award Training System provides options for Award participants (Seminars), Award Leaders, Award Coordinators and Regional Representatives (Training Courses & Conferences) and for the organisation as a whole (Annual Operators Conference & Local Development Workshop).
The system is divided into three progressive stages:
Award Leaders Course: Expedition Assessors (Supervisors: recommended) 1), Award Leaders and Mentors;
Award Management Course: members of the Award Team of an Operating Authority (Award Unit level: recommended);
Courses for Regional Award Representatives: e.g. Regional Consultants and Wild Country Assessors.
The composition of the Award Team and also the course contents vary with time. Hence, the Operating Authority must send new course attendants repeatedly – but at least every three years.
Like the courses, their parts also build on each other: every step requires the previous one. Therefore for every course the “full-time” participation is mandatory.
Compulsory Courses
To meet the Criteria for Operating Authorities, such organisations must ensure the participation in the different compulsory courses 2). For each group, these are (minimum specifications in brackets):
Gold Participants: Introduction through a Gold Seminar or an Award Leaders Course (the latter is compulsory for Independent Participants);
Expedition Assessors: Award Leaders Course;
Award Leaders and Mentors: Award Leaders Course;
Award Team
Award Unit: Award Leaders Course (at least the Unit leader and two deputies) 3);
Operating Authority (basic licence) 4): Award Management Course (at least the Award Coordinator and two deputies);
Operating Authority (extended licence): Award Management Course (at least the Award Coordinator and four deputies PLUS two Wild Country Assessors (Gold licence) or two Regional Consultants (multiple units licence);
Operating Authority
Annual Operators Conference (annually);
Local Development Workshop (at the end of the pilot projects to implement the Award or to extend the licence – and every three years for licence renewal).
Deadlines and Planning
For course participation, the following deadlines apply:
The Award Leaders Course must be attended before the start of the Award work, the Award Management Course within one year thereafter.
In case of a change of office the Award Leaders Course must be attended within one year – and the Award Management Course, the Wild Country Assessors Course and the Regional Consultants Course within two years.
Participations and consultations resulting from these requirements are fixed in the Development Plan and the Annual Plan. The results are recorded and evaluated in the Annual Report.
1) The Expedition Training Course is recommended, too. On the Gold level the Wild Country Assessors Course is compulsory.
2) The Operating Authority also organizes the Local Development Workshop.
3) The Award Management Course is recommended.
4) This requirement also applies to Award Units to which duties of Operating Authorities have been transferred.
